District Identifies Four New Targets and Completes Detailed Soil Sampling Program at the Gruvberget Property
October 24, 2022 – District Metals Corp. (TSX-V: DMX) (FRA: DFPP); ("District" or the “Company”) is pleased to announce the identification of four new high priority targets on the polymetallic Gruvberget Property located in the Bergslagen Mining District of south-central Sweden. Detailed soil sampling grids have been completed over the new target areas, and Ionic Leach (IL) geochemical results are expected back before the end of 2022.
The four new target zones were identified through compilation work that comprised our recent SkyTEM geophysical survey results (see news release) in conjunction with geological and historical exploration data on the Property.
New Target Areas (Figures 1 and 2):
- Target zone 1: Backen
- A Joint Venture (JV) between LKAB and BP Minerals discovered two high grade polymetallic boulders (up to 15% Zn, 4.8% Cu and 23 g/t Ag)1 at the Backen zone in 1980s. The JV was unable to locate the bedrock source for these boulders, which looks to be potentially sourced further to the north-northwest from the JV’s area of work.
- Target zone 2: Gyllingen
- Boliden drilled seven short holes into “sphalerite mineralization” (zinc sulphide) in the mid-1980s. Three drill hole collars were located in the field where the drilling direction was observed as parallel to the geological trend. No detailed information is available on these historical mineralized drill holes, but the Gyllingen zone coincides with a high priority magnetic and conductive anomaly from our recent SkyTEM survey.
- Target zone 3: North zone extension
- The LKAB-BP Minerals JV conducted exploration work north of the Gruvberget North zone, which included drilling geophysical anomalies with 918 m in six holes during 1984. Historical drilling extended polymetallic mineralization to the north of the North zone with a plunge to the north. Drill hole 84-GRU-03 returned 1.0 m of 1.1% Zn and 47 g/t Ag that was within a larger interval of lower grade mineralization2.
- Target zone 4: South zone extension
- A magnetic high anomaly located about 300 m south-southwest from the Gruvberget South zone was drilled with 363.5 m in three holes by NSG (exploration division of Geological Survey of Sweden) in 1982. All three drill holes encountered a 6.0 to 7.0 m wide zone with weak polymetallic mineralization that returned up to 0.1% Cu, 0.08% Pb, 0.09% Zn3 that is interpreted as a potential aureole around a mineralized zone.

We believe that these targets have high potential to extend known polymetallic mineralized bodies or to host new bodies of polymetallic mineralization, and we look forward to testing them in the next phase of drilling.
To further optimize our drill target prioritization, we have conducted a detailed soil sampling grid over each of the four target areas that include Backen, Gyllingen, North zone extension, and the South zone extension. We previously carried out a soil sample orientation survey over and adjacent north of the North zone, which established IL analysis as the most effective analytical method to identify blind polymetallic mineralization in bedrock that is covered by 2 to 20 m of glacial overburden.
Any soil geochemical anomalies identified at the four target areas that are coincident with existing geophysical anomalies and historical mineral occurrences will assist with drill target prioritization.”
The Geological Survey of Sweden (SGU) have scanned and digitized the majority of their paper archive, which is publicly accessible via their web service ‘GeoLagret’. Here, you can (geographically) search and download geological maps, data and reports, including relinquished exploration data by previous exploration companies previously active in the area of interest.
The historic Gruvberget South zone had historic bulk test production from 1926 to 1936 and 1987 to 1989 that totaled approximately 40,000 tonnes at 90 g/t Ag, 5.1% Zn, 1.9% Pb, and 0.3% Cu4. The Gruvberget South and North zones were previously owned by the Bredenberg family under the name AB Gruvbergsgruvan from 1900 to 1999. Past reports detailed how various mining companies (including the LKAB-BP Minerals JV, Stora Kopparberg and Boliden) tried to negotiate a deal with the Bredenberg family, but were not successful2,3.
LKAB started regional exploration activities within the Gruvberget Property in 1978 that included bedrock mapping, boulder hunting, various soil sampling campaigns and both airborne and ground geophysical surveys1,2,5. This generated various target areas which were mainly investigated through a JV between LKAB and BP Minerals from 1983 to 1986. Boliden staked a small exploration license north of Gyllingen Lake (1982-1988) where their historical drilling encountered zinc sulphide mineralization with seven short drill holes, and NSG (Exploration division SGU) explored south of the Gruvberget South zone (1982)3.
The Company has recently completed a detailed soil sampling program at the four high priority target areas. The soil samples will be analyzed using IL analysis, which was determined as the most effective analytical method from a successful soil sampling orientation survey. At each target area, soil samples were recovered 40 m along lines that were 100 m apart, and grids were planned according to a glacial direction from the north. Duplicate soil samples were collected at every 20th sample location. High priority drill targets will be selected based on soil geochemical anomalies coincident with SkyTEM geophysical anomalies and historical mineral occurrences.

The soil samples in this news release were logged and bagged before submittal to ALS Geochemistry in Malå, Sweden where the samples were prepared for analysis. A 50 gram soil sample was sent to ALS Geochemistry in Ireland (an accredited mineral analysis laboratory) for analysis. Ionic Leach samples use a static sodium cyanide leach with a highly sensitive ICP-MS finish (“ME-MS23”).
Some of the data disclosed in this news release is related to historical drilling and exploration results. District has not undertaken any independent investigation of the sampling nor has it independently analyzed the results of the historical exploration work in order to verify the results. District considers the historical drilling and exploration results relevant as the Company is using this data as a guide to plan exploration programs.
